East Anglia ONE Onshore cable route construction
Road works in Ferry Road – 25 to 30 June 2018
Dear Resident
I am writing to update you about construction activity in your area in relation to the East Anglia ONE offshore windfarm project.
The onshore cable route associated with the project is approximately 37km (23 miles) in length. The route runs from a new substation in Bramford, around the north of Ipswich to Bawdsey, where it connects with the offshore cables. Our contractors will be installing ducts (housing) for the power cables under Ferry Road in June by excavating a trench and burying the ducts. The power cables will be pulled through the ducts at a later date.
We previously wrote to you informing you of a full road closure under a TO15 traffic management system. However, to enable access to be maintained on Ferry Road during the works, we will first install two temporary passing bays either side of the road. The passing bays will be installed from 25 June and work will take about one week to complete.
Thereafter our contractors will begin trenching work across Ferry Road to install the ducts. During this period, there will be a lane closure on Ferry Road controlled by traffic lights. Traffic will be diverted along one temporary bay while contractors work on a section of Ferry Road. As work progresses, the diversion will be switched over to the second passing bay to allow the team to continue excavating the road. The trenches will be backfilled and the road re-surfaced before being re-opened to the travelling public. There will now be no full closure of the Ferry Road and it is expected to be back in normal use by 30 June 2018.
I apologise for any inconvenience. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Yours faithfully
